This blog post is a guest feature by Nectir’s Marketing & Social Media intern, Katie Cheng. Katie current third-year student at the University of California, Berkeley, studying Cognitive Science and Data Science.

I’m Katie, Nectir’s Social Media Intern.

“Video unable to be saved due to insufficient storage.”

For most of high school, that was my reality. My phone was perpetually full because I was obsessed with capturing everything, trying to turn my life into a cinematic story. That obsession eventually became my career path: it landed me roles as Social Media Manager and Managing Editor for my school paper, and even led to a partnership with a national brand that brought new funding to our program.

Before joining the Marketing team at Nectir, I was the Digital Media Editor of my high school newspaper.

A few years later, that same passion brought me here to Nectir. As the Social Media Intern, my job is to tell Nectir AI’s story. The best way to do that? Showing you how I’m using it myself, straight from a student’s perspective.

My first big project is a video series highlighting how AI can be a tool for creativity in academics. The irony of using AI to talk about AI is not lost on me—but neither is the efficiency. So, how do I start? I start with Nectir AI.

How do I use Nectir AI for work?

Nectir AI isn't a generic chatbot. I’ve built a specialized project assistant by uploading specific documents into my private Nectir AI knowledge base:

  • Nectir’s official brand and tone guidelines (right down to our favorite emojis).
  • The AP Stylebook (the gold standard from my journalism days).
  • Research papers and articles regarding the ethics and impact of AI in education.
  • Samples of previous Nectir posts for voice consistency.

Now, Nectir AI acts as my creative partner. Here is how it looks in action:

Brainstorming Scripts I can ask, "Based on the research papers, generate five video script hooks about AI's role in creative writing courses." It gives me ideas grounded in an academic context, not just generic AI fluff.

Strengthening Drafts – I’ll paste a draft for a social post and ask, "Refine this to match Nectir’s brand voice and ensure it’s AP Style compliant." It’s an editor that never sleeps, allowing me to hand my manager a polished, confident draft every time.

I’m taking the tools I learned in the classroom, like journalistic integrity and AP Style, and elevating them to a professional standard.

What began as a hobby hampered by "low storage" has become a career-defining skill. I’m a student, but I’m also a creator and a professional-in-training. I’m not just using Nectir AI because it’s my job; I’m using it because it’s the bridge between my academic life and my professional future.

Imagine if every student on campus had a tool like this to turn their passion into a portfolio. That’s a story I’m excited to tell. Now, give me a few days to clear some more storage space before I share my next update!

Frequently Asked Questions About Nectir AI

What is Nectir AI? Nectir AI is AI infrastructure purpose-built for education. It gives colleges, universities, and high schools schools the ability to deploy AI Assistants across their campus that are fully controlled by faculty and administrators, integrated with existing learning management systems, and compliant with FERPA and SOC 2 standards. Unlike consumer AI tools, Nectir is purpose-built to support structured, pedagogy-driven AI use in academic settings.

How is Nectir AI different from consumer AI tools? With Nectir AI, faculty can control the behavior of the AI: they set the prompt, define what the AI can and cannot do, choose the teaching method (such as Socratic questioning), and establish boundaries that keep students learning actively rather than passively receiving answers. Student data stays private and is never shared with model providers.

Can Nectir AI work with my school's existing LMS?Yes. Nectir integrates with existing learning management systems so that schools can deploy AI infrastructure without overhauling their current technology stack. Faculty can build AI Assistants that reference their own course materials, syllabi, and rubrics within the platform they already use.
